In this project I explore light and shadow. I’m interested in the points of contact where one piece meets another. The sculptures verlap, one slides under the other. A shadowed space is created between them. I use a variety of techniques for wood embolisation, such as iron oxides, smoking in ammonia, or painting with stains or inks. I am testing ways to achieve the play of light and shadow on the wood surface, through different carving and finishing techniques. I test carving very hard wood with a triangular chisel for a sharp sparkly effect or texturing for a soft suede shadow depth.
